Creative Health Training

About

Creative Health Training developed from Phoene Cave’s work as Creative Director of The Musical Breath, building on her decades of work as a music therapist and manager in the NHS, education, criminal justice and third sector organisations.

Initially care homes and hospices asked for specific training in singing for lung health to support those in their care.

Phoene created a broader training incorporating tools for self-care for staff including mindful movement and breathwork. She introduced creative ways of supporting non-verbal communication from patients, as well as reflecting on how the sounds in the care setting might impact staff and patients.

Phoene’s personal creative practice began to incorporate multidisciplinary arts and collaborations – as seen in her work with TRANSIT Collective.

Phoene has delivered:

  • Ongoing week-long simulated practice learning placements for cohorts of first year nursing students for the University of Roehampton in London since 2021.
  • Creative health training days at hospices (Rochester, Worthing) and care homes (Wandsworth).
  • Music for Wellbeing workshops for medical students at Imperial College London.
  • Creative health training days for occupational and physiotherapy students at Brunel University in London.
  • Hybrid (online and in person) extended Music in Care training for staff at hospices in Manchester in 2021.
  • As the Director of the Musical Breath she has trained 350 practitioners worldwide in Singing for Lung Health since 2015.
Phoene is effective in her project management and communication and she and the team work incredibly well with me to ensure a professional running of the programme. I so appreciate Phoene’s hard work, effort and energy. It’s such a joy to work with them all

We recommend that the education of clinicians, public health specialists and other health and care professionals includes accredited modules on the evidence base and practical use of the arts for health and wellbeing outcomes.
